About the Role
The Team Leader is a key member of Thrift for Good’s retail operations and mission-driven community. This role supports the store's daily operations, leads and motivates the team (including volunteers and interns), ensures an excellent customer experience, and upholds the values of sustainability and ethical impact.
Operate the till and point-of-sale (POS) system accurately,
Ensure the till area is tidy and secure, and reconcile cash at the end of the day as needed,
Support daily cash-up procedures and report any discrepancies promptly,
Reconcile POS at the end of a shift,
In short, keep the store stocked and well running during your shift, teaching and managing volunteers to ensure the best service and sales possible,
Identify and manage tasks required to keep volunteers engaged and feeling their time is of value; tasks are given based on their strengths and comfort level,
Have confidence when asking volunteers and colleagues to perform tasks and the reasons why these are important to the success of TfG,
Provide a high standard of customer service at all times to volunteers, customers and donors alike,
Keep the store floor well stocked with items that pass the TfG quality check guidelines,
Ensure all items on the floor are priced in line with our pricing schedule and/or have undergone the appropriate discounting,
Be able to undertake tasks that require attention, such as steaming or sorting clothes, washing, repairing and others, whilst empowering volunteers to continuously learn until the stage where they could run the store independently, as is appropriate,
Update merchandise to stay in line with the most recent VM Guidelines,
Create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere in the store and stockroom during your shift,
Uphold safety protocols, report hazards, and promote a safe environment for staff, customers, and visitors,
Participate in safety briefings and emergency preparedness,
Report concerns regarding theft, customer complaints and otherwise with the Store Manager,
Escalate ideas to improve the stores to the Store Manager/Managing Director,
Support special events, workshops, and sustainability campaigns.
Requirements
This role will be based between our Thrift for Good Palm and The Market Mall DIP stores. Flexibility to work across stores may be required.
Skills
Retail experience, with clothing preferred
Previous experience with volunteers a plus
Excellent spoken English
Excellent customer service experience
Outgoing positive attitude
Able to work quickly, multi-tasking and stay positive under pressure
Interested in fashion, sustainability and charity
